Christians and Sex: Why So Serious?

The historic Christian understanding of sexuality is often viewed in our day as a vestige of outdated religion that places unrealistic limitations on human freedom. Claiming that the only proper place for sexual expression is the covenanted marriage relationship between one man and one woman seems patently absurd to most people.

We describe such a view as traditional, but in the first-century world where Christianity was born, the Christian sexual ethic was revolutionary and liberating. How could such a change occur?
